BONE-DEEP
is a series of oil paintings that explores the inner world of a girl struggling with eating disorders. While my works have a deeply personal nature, I aim to go beyond the boundaries of the individual and delve into the human experience of suffering and coping with societal pressures regarding body image alongside the emotional abyss.
The title of the series alludes to the profound, ingrained nature of the issues at hand. Throughout the creative process, I investigate the intricate interplay between the inner self and the external world, which coalesce to shape our perception of reality and our very sense of self. This dynamic finds expression in the interplay of light and shadow, as well as the contrast between hyper-realistic figures and distorted images, which are borne out of the imagination and the soul.
Through the creation of this series, I offer an honest testimony to the transformative potential of art and human resilience in the face of adversity. In doing so, I also aim to highlight the role of art as a space for identification, understanding, and solace.
